opposed to robots who run to spots, any high school varsity team could run a read style offense. The problem with teaching kids how to play the game is that it takes a lot of work and you need to hand over a lot of teaching responsibility to assistant coaches because one person can't teach all of the details and make sure that the kids are doing it right. A lot of coaches don't want to put in the time or give up the power of being the head coach. The great thing about making kids better players is that if they feel that they are getting better, they tend to work harder for you and thats why I think it can be done.

P.S. They just run to spots instead of reading how the defense is playing them and making the correct read because either because there coach will get mad at them for not popping when the play is designed for a pop or they just get too caught up in the diagram of the play and how it should be run. Do you think that the average high school team would be able to run an offense biased entirely upon reads instead of using set plays? I know many people that have wasted time in the gym just practicing stationary shooting (myself included). Not only is workout tempo important for saving time I feel it gives you better results than working out at a leisurely pace since when you play you play at full speed your body is much more adjusted to performing the proper techniques necessary for success at game speed becomes habit. I was glad that you pointed out always staying low while working out this is a very important overlooked key. When weight training is part of a players workout routine do you think they should shoot before or after? I have heard that shooting after can lead you to developing bad habits on your jump shot to compensate for the lack of strength. I have also heard that if you don't shoot after you lift you lose your touch on the ball. I was also wondering how important do you think weight training is for basketball?

I think that the offense works better in general w...

I think that the offense works better in general with more athletic teams but more importantly you really need 4 players that can handle the ball to truly run it effectively. For instance, I think that this offense could be a good choice if your 6 best players are guards. Why would you run a traditional 3 around 2 motion with two posts when your best players are guards? I think it has a place but like I said in the posting, this is an offense that requires BASKETBALL players. It's truly a college/pro style offense and you need players that have the skills and can make reads. If you don't have those type of players and you still want to run DDM, as a coach, you need to be willing to teach those reads and skills. All of this takes time and patience. Some coaches I talked to tell me that it takes more than a year to implement Dribble Drive Motion. The bottom line is that it takes more time to put this offense in than most other offenses, and many coaches decide that they want to put the DDM in when it is clear that they don't or won't take the time to put it in properly.

Do you think that the DDM should only be used by t...

Do you think that the DDM should only be used by teams with superior athletes or do you think that less athletic teams could use this offensive effectively?

I have been on teams that are way more talented an...

I have been on teams that are way more talented and more athletic than the team we are playing top to bottom. If we were starting from scratch, I would focus more on fingertip control and making sure that they keep their eyes up. As the player develops I start doing drills where I am talking about pounding the ball and developing a rhythm between your hands and feet. Towards the end I do a lot of dribbling drills that involve a lot of physical contact.
